The Statement of the first hexagram
Constancy is to continue
without fault.
Gain through purity.
Gain by having a place to go.
The changing lines
The first line:
Dredging for constancy.
Pure misfortune. No place is gainful.
The second line:
Regrets vanish.
The third line:
Inconstant in conduct:
one may be disgraced.
Persist and there will be remorse.
The fifth line:
Constant in virtue.
Like a woman: fortune.
Like a man: misfortune.

Following
what is great, smooth,
gainful, and pure.
No fault.
The Image of the first hexagram
Thunder and wind:
constancy.
The noble one stands
without changing direction.
The Image of the second hexagram
Thunder over the middle
of the lake: following.
The noble one at sunset
goes into a house to rest.
