52 Stilling
The Statement of the first hexagram
One stills one's back
and does not move one's body.
There is movement in one's courtyard,
but one does not see one's people.
No fault.
The changing lines
The first line:
Stilling one's feet. No fault.
Gain through everlasting virtue.
The sixth line:
Deep and honest stillness.
Fortunate.
36 Smothered Light
The Statement of the second hexagram
Smothered light.
Gain is difficult: persist.
The Image of the first hexagram
Doubled mountains:
stillness.
The noble one
does not consider matters
beyond his position.
The Image of the second hexagram
Brilliance
in the earth's core:
smothered light.
The noble one
governs the multitude
by obscurity-
but with enlightenment.
