16 Delight

The Statement of the first hexagram

What delight!
Gain by naming allies.
Move armies.

The changing lines

The first line:
Crowing delight.
Misfortune.
The second line:
Upright like a rock in character.
In less than a day
one shows that purity.
Fortune.
The third line:
Wide-eyed delight is regrettable.
If you are late
you will have regrets.
The fourth line:
Through delight, the great attains.
Do not doubt it! Friends gather
like hair in a clasp.
The fifth line:
Firm illness persists,
but there is no death.
The sixth line:
Dark delight succeeds.
Have a change of mind
and there will be no fault.

9 Smallness Tames

The Statement of the second hexagram

Smallness tames. Persevere.
Dense clouds, no rain
at my western border.

The Image of the first hexagram

Thunder explodes,
shaking the earth: delight.
The early kings made music,
glorifying virtue as the
highest offering to God,
and so they were worthy
of their ancestors.

The Image of the second hexagram

Wind moving high
in heaven: smallness tames.
The noble one acts
with restraint, culture,
and morals.
