The Statement of the first hexagram
Increase. Gain by having a place to go.
Advance across the great river.
The changing lines
The first line:
Gain by using great work.
Great fortune. No fault.
The fourth line:
There is a middle path. Alert the duke
to follow. Gain by working for the sake
of moving the nation.
The sixth line:
No increase when someone attacks.
Setting the heart without constancy:
misfortune.

The king draws near to the temple:
gain by seeing a great person.
Make an offering with purity,
using great sacrificial beasts. Fortune.
Gain by having a place to go.
The Image of the first hexagram
Wind and thunder:
increase. The noble one
sees perfection
and shifts to fit its pattern,
and corrects his own faults.
The Image of the second hexagram
Lake above the earth.
Collecting. The noble one
collects the tools of war
to guard against
unforeseen danger.
