24 Returning
The Statement of the first hexagram
Returning. Continue. In coming and going, there is neither sickness nor distress. Companions come without fault. Returning is its Tao. In seven days, returning comes. Gain by having a place to go.
The changing lines
The first line:
Returning from a short distance is not regrettable. Great fortune.
The second line:
Resting, then returning: fortunate.
The fourth line:
Returning alone in the middle of the road.
The fifth line:
Honest returning: no fault.
47 Distress
The Statement of the second hexagram
Distress. Continue. For a pure and great person: fortune. No fault. What is said is not trusted.
The Image of the first hexagram
Thunder in the center of the earth: returning. The ancient kings closed the borders during the solstices. Traveling merchants did not journey. Sovereigns did not tour the provinces.
The Image of the second hexagram
A lake without water: distress. The noble one devotes her life to fulfill her will.
