54 Marrying Sister
The Statement of the first hexagram
Advance: misfortune.
No place will bring gain.
The changing lines
The second line:
Blind in one eye: able to see.
Gain by a solitary person's firmness.
The fifth line:
Emperor Yi gives his younger sister in marriage.
Her royal sleeves are not as fine
as the secondary wives'. The moon: nearly full.
Fortune.
The sixth line:
A woman carries a basket: no fruit.
A man sacrifices a ram: no blood.
No place is gainful.
25 Innocence
The Statement of the second hexagram
Innocence: from the first, all must be
pervasive, gainful, and pure.
Those without such truth suffer calamity
and do not gain no matter where they go.
The Image of the first hexagram
Thunder over lake:
marrying sister.
The noble one pursues
far-reaching goals
while keeping aware
of possible ruin.
The Image of the second hexagram
Thunder moves
under heaven: all the world
is innocent. The ancient
kings paid close attention
to the time
in nourishing
the myriad things.
