7 Armies

The Statement of the first hexagram

Armies must be steadfast.
With a great leader
they will find fortune.
They must remain without fault.

The changing lines

The second line:
In the middle of armies: fortune.
Be without fault.
The king confers command three times.
The fourth line:
The armies camp on the eastern side.
Be without fault.
The fifth line:
There are birds in the field. Catch them!
No fault when the eldest one
commands armies, but if it is a trainee-
carts of corpses and pure misfortune.
The sixth line:
The great prince takes command.
He founds a country
and supports the clans.
He does not employ petty people.

12 Clogging

The Statement of the second hexagram

Clogging by wicked people.

Nothing to be gained,

even from a steadfast prince.

The great goes, the vile comes.

The Image of the first hexagram

The earth's center
is filled with water.
The noble one supports
the people and cares for
everyone.

The Image of the second hexagram

Heaven and earth
separate: clogging.
The noble one acts
with self-restraint
in the face
of punishing hardship,
and avoids glory or riches.
